"The Grand Canyon of the Sky." With rock strata, deeper means older. With galaxies, farther means older. The title comes from the blending of time in geology and astronomy. What if you compared the distance of galaxies to the history of life? You would have photons dating back to the age of T. rex, fossil ferns, and trilobites - and more. Alan Goldstein wrote an article on this topic in ASTRONOMY magazine recently, and created this program for the Tucson Star Party, where it was well-received. It will give you a new perspective the next time you observe galaxies.

Presented by Alan Goldstein.
