The Louisville Astronomical Society is partnering with IU Southeast for a public star party at their observatory in New Albany. LAS members will be bringing telescopes and wish to share the night sky with visitors.
The observatory features a 17-inch telescope housed in a dome, with an additional telescope that can be rolled out for viewing. The site is surrounded by trees on three sides, which helps reduce light pollution and creates a surprisingly good observing environment.
The observatory area includes a paved observing pad as well as a large grassy field with plenty of space for additional telescopes. Setup can begin as early as 6:00 p.m., allowing time to get equipment ready before sunset.
The observatory is located just north of the main IU Southeast campus. Parking is available at the site, with additional parking on campus.
